Dance Marathon
Dance Marathon at the University of Florida is a yearlong fundraising campaign that cumulates to a 26.2 hour event held in the spring semester. The organization fundraises for UF Health Shands Children's hospital, our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. The funds raise goes toward research, equipment and patient care. The organization's mission is help children and their families fighting childhood illness. We have chapter women who serve on every level of involvement for the organization from Dancers to Emerging Leaders to Captains to Assistant Directors. They work hard all year to help make a difference and end the year standing for the duration of the 26.2 hour to show their support the children.
Project Makeover
Project Makeover was founded in 2008 by a few innovative, passionate students at the University of Florida whose mission was to create a more dynamic learning environment for elementary school students. As a completely student-run organization Project Makeover is devoted to bettering the low-income learning environment of Alachua county. Each year an elementary school in need is selected and with the help of over 1,000 volunteers, they makeover the entire school in one weekends time. This year, 60 of our sisters volunteered and participated in a variety of different projects , such as painting murals, landscaping, and construction
The Big Event
The Big Event is a nationwide service movement and is essentially a new, citywide service day planned and run by University of Florida students. The day is kicked off with an opening ceremony and followed by UF students performing three to four hour service projects across Gainesville - all “For The Gator Good!" In 2019, our sisters picked up trash around Gainesville and laid sod at a local shelter, St. Francis House.
